Quito Food Tours

Discover and experience the tastes of Ecuador as we explore the amazing local food scene together.  We will visit a traditional market, taste Andean and Amazonian fruits, and visit an indigenous family to try a century old corn bread recipe roasted on a clay disk. We will share a meal at a great local restaurant or discover the variety available at a food plaza filled with Quito´s innovative food trucks. And, if you chose the whole day excursion, we will also buy the ingredients and create a ceviche together.

Here are two great options to help you open your palate and senses to the abundance of the flavors Ecuador offers.

Half-day experience (5 Hours - 9 to 2):

  • Visit a traditional market to taste and learn about exotic Andean and Amazonian fruits
  • Be a guest at a tiny shop, owned by an indigenous family, where “tortillas en tiesto” flat corn breads are roasted on a huge, clay disk. They are typically served with an authentic drink, made from either winter squash or from purple fruits and purple corn.  The second is called “Colada Morada”, an iconic drink that is always prepared, enjoyed and shared on the Day of the Dead (Nov. 2) in the cemetery.
  • Share an “almuerzo” (lunch) either at a great local restaurant with a view of an active volcano (on a clear day) or at the food plaza, with many food trucks and lots of local options.
